Modern or Classic

Modern or ClassicSo you are looking at decorating your home. That being said, should you go with modern or classic? If you chose modern there are 5 basic ideas that can govern a great modern look in your home.

First of all, focus on simplicity. Don’t assume that by simplicity I mean literally four white walls, and a chair. That is too extreme. What I do mean by keeping it simple is keeping things neat and tidy by having a room that is uncluttered.

A second idea when going for a modern look in your home is that you want to keep in mind function. Your rooms need to be functional. It doesn’t matter what room you are in, you will want to be able to access the various items in it. For example a modern kitchen is simple in design and workable. Meaning that there is ample work space and everything is easily accessible. I think modern kitchens that have an island are great. I love this extra workspace.

The third way to make a modern space is to utilize technology. In order to keep with the flow of the room and clean lines, you’ll want your electronics to work well in the room. Consider a flat panel tv that is mounted to the wall, a built in DVD player, and computers that fit into the room well and don’t really stand out as a sore thumb. A fourth way to create a modern look in your home is to have a lot of open space. I am a person who loves an open concept. You may not have a lot of space in your home to work with but fear not, you can create the illusion of space by using color, fabrics and furniture.

Make sure if you have any window coverings that they are light in color so that an airy and light feel can be created. The final idea in creating a modern look for your home is to add some character to your different spaces. Never shy away from color. It doesn’t have to be difficult to create a great good modern look for your home. On the other hand, some people love the more classic look. Dark wood finishes are typical for furniture in this style. Popular and timeless patterns that are classic include: stripes, floral, prints, checks, toile, and even houndstooth are some great choices. Third, you’ll want to keep in mind classic colors when trying to decorate your home in a classic style. Warm earth tones are some that’ll you’ll want to keep in mind and they include: beige, gold, brick red, orange and yellow. In regards to decorating accents such as lighting some classical style choices include chandeliers, floor lamps and table lamps.

Antique furniture Los Angeles is a great place to find some good classical pieces. They have everything ranging from tables, seating, clocks, mirrors, and even bookcases just to name a few different kinds of pieces. They can even take old pieces you might have and create it into something new.
